Peace of Mind

It appeared as if even old Padre was having some problems with the news in the world that day. Padre wasn’t someone who usually paid much attention to current events, but the media seemed to keep pounding the same nail. Finally, Herman noticed a change in his friend’s disposition, and that’s when he shared some practical advice with Padre. It was advice that was clearly supported by Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition.

Of course, most faithful believers want justice for everyone. They want it not only for the rich and powerful, but also the weakest and most vulnerable in society. But that seems to be a bit of a problem right now in the world — maybe it always has been a problem.

The Bible tells us that if we want to see justice, we must make peace. It says that those who make peace are actually sowing the seeds of justice by their peaceful acts (James 3:18). We didn’t make that up, folks. God is the Author of that. So please consider what it means, just like Padre did.

Well, Padre knows that Herman is only a mouse, but he also realizes that Herman is a rare, orange mouse. He is a Cathedral mouse and a superhero of the faith. So Padre decided he’d take Herman’s advice.

It wasn’t easy, at least, not at first. But soon Padre began to realize he was almost addicted to this stuff. It was as if he had been afraid he might somehow miss something important if he didn’t turn on that cable news channel or open that social media site.

Somehow, after a few days, Padre began to realize something else. The world did not fall apart when he turned off the TV and tuned out of the social media madness. The old priest discovered that he actually was feeling a lot better about the people around him too, even if they had a different political perspective than he had.

And one other benefit that Padre noticed was that he had more time for prayer and reflection. He found that he was at peace again, and he decided he’d never underestimate the wisdom of a little, orange mouse too.

That’s our story and we’re sticking to it. It’s cool to be Catholic. COOL2B!

In Christ.
